What Are The Provider's Qualifications? A qualified orthodontic specialist must first receive his or her doctorate in general dentistry, the same as your faintly dentist. They must complete an additional two years of graduate training in their specialty - Orthodontics. As a specialist, the orthodontist is required to limit their practice exclusively to orthodontics. If the dental practitioner is practicing general dentistry and providing orthodontic services, he or she is not a qualified specialist in orthodontics.
